Santillana to host Grandes Profes 2017 (Great Teachers 2017)

05-01-2017

High-profile professionals from a wide range of fields will put all their knowledge at the service of teachers at this year’s event, with the aim of helping and motivating them in their day-to-day work, as well as paying tribute their work in the classroom. The journalist and presenter of the Sexta TV channel news, Helena Resano, will be master of ceremonies.

Experts giving their advice will include the Deputy Minister of Vocational Training of the Basque Regional Government, Jorge Arévalo; the academic and CEO of Barrabes.Biz, Luis Martín; the Buddhist monk and disciple of Dalai Lama, and founder of Tibet House in Barcelona, Thubten Wangchen; and the Spanish violinist of Armenian origin, Ara Malikian. They will all be sharing their experiences with attendees, thereby offering inspiration to teachers at a time of enormous change in the education sector.

Jorge Arévalo, for instance, will focus on the importance of equipping students with skills adapted to the needs of the future job market; Luis Martin, meanwhile, will give guidelines for adapting to the changing world and digital age in which we live; Thubten Wangchen will address personal transformation and will show attendees techniques for relaxing the mind and mindfulness; and Ara Malikian will speak, from his personal and inspiring experience, of the ability we all have for coping with difficult situations.

This big event in the education calendar will also feature a round-table debate chaired by Carlos Magro, expert in digital strategy in the education sector and creator of co.labora.red. He’ll be joined by Dolors Reig, social psychologist and academic specialized in social networks and innovation; Mago More, expert in the application of Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality; and David Calle, engineer and YouTube teacher (the only Spanish finalist for the Global Teacher Prize 2016). Together, they’ll be looking at the keys to incorporating and developing digital skills among students and teachers. They will also discuss the usefulness of ICT and social media as tools at the service of teaching.

Daniel de la Cámara, from The Comedy Club, will be bringing a touch of humor to the event, which is being held, once again, at Madrid’s Cines Kinépolis Ciudad de la Imagen. The event will also be streamed via grandesprofes.org. Attendance is free and open to all teachers, who may register at the event website via Ticketea.
