Cookies policy

a) Use of Cookies and Web Beacons by the websites of GRUPO PRISA

b) Type, purpose and functioning of Cookies

c) How to disable Cookies and Web Beacons in some of the leading browsers

d) What happens if Cookies are disabled

a) Use of Cookies and Web Beacons by the websites of GRUPO PRISA:

(The Websites of the GRUPO PRISA) use ‘Cookies’ and other similar devices (hereinafter, Cookies). Cookies are files sent to a browser by a web server, which register the activities of the User on a determined website or on all of the websites, apps and/or services of (the Websites of GRUPO PRISA) (hereinafter, the Services). The main aim of the cookies is to provide the User with faster access to the selected services. Furthermore, the cookies personalise the services offered by (the websites of GRUPO PRISA), making available and offering to each User information of interest to them or that could be of interest to them, depending on the use they make of the Services.

(The websites of GRUPO PRISA) use Cookies to personalise and to facilitate as far as possible the User browsing experience. Cookies are only associated with an anonymous User and their device and do not provide references that could be used to work out the User’s personal data. The User can configure their browser such that it will notify the User and reject the installation of those Cookies sent by (the websites of GRUPO PRISA), without prejudice to the possibility of the User accessing the Contents. That notwithstanding, we note that in that case the functionality of the website may be adversely affected.

Those registered Users who register or who have started a session may be able to benefit from more personalised services, better orientated to their profile, by the use of the combination of the data stored in the Cookies together with the personal data used at the time of registration. Said Users expressly authorise the use of this information with the aims as set out, with no prejudice to their right to disable or reject the use of Cookies.

Equally, (the Websites of GRUPO PRISA) will have the ability to be made aware of all of the GRUPO PRISA services requested by Users, such that they can facilitate or offer information tailored to the interests and preferences of each User. The list of companies that manage the Services of GRUPO PRISA can be consulted through the following link:

(The Websites of GRUPO PRISA) also use Web Beacons, diminutive, transparent images inserted into e-mails. When the User opens the mail, the image is downloaded with the rest of the contents, providing information as to whether the specific e-mail has been opened or not, as well as the IP address at which it was downloaded. (The Websites of GRUPO PRISA) use this information to obtain statistics and carry out analytical studies on the e-mails received by Users.

b) Type, purpose and functioning of Cookies

The Cookies, depending on their permanence, can be divided into session and persistent Cookies. The former expire when the User closes the browser. The latter expire when the purpose they serve has been met (for example, so that the user remains identified to the Services of GRUPO PRISA) or when manually deleted

Additionally, depending on their purpose, Cookies can be classified as follows:

PERFORMANCE COOKIES: These Cookies remember your preferences for the tools found in the Services, meaning the service doesn’t need to be re-configured every time you visit. For example, this type of Cookie would include:

  • Volume level for playback of video and audio.
  • Video transfer speeds that are compatible with your browser.
  • Storing items in the ‘shopping cart’ in the e-commerce Services and on-line stores.

GEO-LOCATION COOKIES: these cookies are used to ascertain in which country users are located when they request a Service. These Cookies are completely anonymous, and are only used to help provide content that is appropriate to the location.

TRAFFIC LOG COOKIES: Traffic Log Cookies are created when a User has registered or when they later open a session and are used to identify the User to the Services with the following aims:

  • To keep the User identified such that if they close a Service, the browser or the device and later return to said service they will continue to be identified, making their browsing easier, by not having to re-identify themselves. This functionally can be cancelled if the User uses the ‘Close Session’ option such that the Cookie is eliminated and the next time the User opens the Service they will be required to start a session in order to be identified.
  • To check that the User is authorised to access certain Services, for example to take part in a competition.

Furthermore, some Services may use connections to social media sites such as Facebook or Twitter. When the User registers with a Service using credentials from a social media network, they authorise the social media network to store a persistent Cookie that remembers their identity and guarantees access to the Services until expiry. The User can delete this Cookie and cancel their access to the Services using the social media network by updating the preferences on the social media network used.

ANALYTICAL COOKIES: Every time a User visits a Service, an External Provider’s tool (Omniture, Netscope, Comscore and other similar that may be added to this list where the current list changes) generates an analytical Cookie in the Users computer. This Cookie, only created during the visit, will serve on future visits to the Services of GRUPO PRISA to anonymously identify the visitor. The main aims of this are:

- To allow for anonymous identification of Users through the Cookie (which identifies browsers and devices, not individuals) and therefore an approximate reckoning of the number of visitors and the tendency of the amount of time they spend using the Service.

- To anonymously identify those contents that are most visited and therefore the most attractive to Users

- To know if the User accessing the Service is a new or a repeat visitor.

NB: Except where a User decides to register with a Service of GRUPO PRISA, the Cookie will never be associated with any data of a personal nature that could identify them. Said Cookies will only be used for statistical purposes that help optimise the User’s experience on the website.

Among other things, they store the duration or the frequency of advertising placement visualisations, interactions with these, web browsing patterns and/or User behaviour, on the basis that these help to build up a profile of advertising interests. In this manner, they help offer advertising that is of interest to the User.

THIRD PARTY AD SERVING COOKIES: In addition to the advertising managed by (the Websites of GRUPO PRISA) in its services, (the Websites of GRUPO PRISA) offer its advertisers the option of serving adverts through third parties. (“Ad-Servers”). These third parties can store Cookies sent by the Services of GRUPO PRISA coming from Users’ browsers, as well as access the data stored on them.

The companies that create these Cookies have their own privacy policies. Currently (the Websites of GRUPO PRISA) use the Doubleclick (Google) platform to manage these services. For more information, see
