Jesús Ceberio studied journalism at the Universidad de Navarra and worked for a number of papers, including El Correo Español - El Pueblo Vasco, Informaciones as well as Televisión Española, before joining El País when it was set up.
He was the paper’s first regional editor for the Basque Country, and has also been a reporter in Mexico, chief writer, an editor, as well as deputy managing editor since June 1991.
He was appointed editor-in-chief of El País in November 1993 and Director General of the Press division of PRISA in May 2006.
