The Jesús de Polanco Academic Chair launches a master's program in Human Rights

Ignacio Polanco, chairman of the Fundación Santillana and Grupo PRISA and José María Sanz, rector of the Universidad Autonoma de Madrid (UAM) will together launch the Master's in Human Rights and Governability, an initiative of the Jesús de Polanco Academic Chair for Ibero-American Studies, sponsored by the Fundación Santillana and the UAM.
The event will also be attended by the minister of education, Ángel Gabilondo and CEO, Juan Luis Cebrián, as well as a number of lecturers who will be teaching the course.

The master's course will result in a degree awarded by the UAM and will start in January 2011. It has been designed to create a new academic and professional space for investigating juridical reform that contributes to governability, as well as human rights and the duties of a globalized world. The chief goal is to equip students with the tools for researching, investigating, defending and implementing basic human rights as well as structures that will guarantee these rights through public, private, national and international bodies.
The academic department will consist of 35 lecturers and specialists in the fields of administrative law, constitutional law, institutional relations, contemporary history and political science. They include: Paloma Biglino Campos, Professor of Constitutional Law; Juan Damián Moreno, Professor of Procedural Law, UAM; Teresa Freixes Sanjuan, Professor of Constitutional Law, UAB; Francisco J. Laporta Sanmiguel, Professor of Philosophy of Law; Juan Fernando López Aguilar, Professor of Constitutional Law, Pedro Martínez Lillo, Professor of Contemporary History, UAM; Álvaro Rodríguez Bereijo, Professor of Tax Law, UAM; Antonio Rovira Viñas, Professor of Constitutional Law, UAM; Fernando Savater, Professor of Philosophy, UCM.
The course is organized into five modules: Governance, General Theory of Human Rights, Analysis of Basic Human Rights, Internship and Research Project.
