First issue of EL PAÍS published under the leadership of Juan Luis Cebrián

1976

Santillana establishes its Foundation.

1979

EL PAÍS takes a strong editorial stand against the coup attempt in Spain on February 23rd.

1981

PRISA becomes majority shareholder of Cadena SER

1985

Launch of Los 40 Principales music radio station.

1987

Acquisition of Cinco Días, Spanish business and finance newspaper.

1989

Creation of Sogecable, a pioneer in satellite television in Spain.

1990

Acquisition of AS, Spanish sports newspaper.

1996

PRISA begins public trading on the stock market.

2000

2001-2006: Expansion into Latin America, with the acquisition of Brazilian publisher Moderna and radio stations across Argentina, Chile, and other countries.

2001

Launch of Cuatro, a general-interest TV channel.

2005

Launch of the Spanish edition of The Huffington Post.

2012

PRISA focuses Santillana’s business exclusively on Latin America.
