Ediciones El País and the Human Age Institute Foundation have launched their first ever joint short story contest, "A Country of Abilities" aimed at Madrid secondary school students aged between 12 and 16. Participants are asked to contribute their ideas of diversity and the value of the difference. First prize is a 16GB iPad Air Gold, second is a 9.7” Samsung Galaxy Tab and third a gift card worth 150 euros to be spent on any tech product. There will also be two honorable mentions, with each receiving a gift card worth 50 euros.
The theme of the short story competition is diversity and people with differing abilities. The contest is open to students enrolled in any school or college in the municipality of Madrid aged between 12 and 16. Each participant may submit only one original work. Stories should be brief, with a maximum length of two A4 pages and a minimum of one, in Arial 10 point font and with 1.5 line spacing. Judges will evaluate how the contestant interpreted the theme, the range of vocabulary, imagination, grammatical correctness and structure.
