La Ventana live from Mozambique

04-03-2016

A news team from La Ventana, led by Carles Francino, has been in Maputo, capital of Mozambique, to mark the 20th anniversary of the Center for Health Research of Manhiça (CISM), a laboratory specializing in the fight against malaria. This is the only project to be funded continuously in Africa for 20 years by the Bill Gates Foundation and the La Caixa Foundation, among other backers.

With a special program designed exclusively for the day, the radio program conducted a live interview with Pedro Alonso, director of the WHO’s Global Malaria Programme, which in 1996 launched CISM Mozambique with the assistance of the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development (AECID).The first part of the program also featured the Mozambican doctor Eusébio Macete and Rafael Vila Sanjuán, director of Global Analysis and Development at the Institute for Global Health in Barcelona (ISGlobal) and a regular contributor to La Ventana.

For the second part of the show, the journalist Sol Alonso, in collaboration with an orphanage, gave listeners an idea of everyday life in the country and paid tribute to Henning Mankell, Swedish writer and director of the National Theatre in Maputo for many years.
