Prisa Noticias expands automotive news with a new team and content

06-03-2017

News media belonging to Prisa Noticias are set to boost coverage of the automotive world, a key industrial sector in Spain that accounts for 10% of GDP, 9% of active employment and around 17% of exports. The automotive sector is poised to undergo a profound revolution in the coming years as four simultaneous processes establish new rules of the game: electrification, driverless cars, new services and mobile and digitization platforms. Prisa Noticias, with EL PAÍS at the forefront, seeks to play an active role in this new era, both in Spain and in Latin America, and, as the world’s leading provider of news in Spanish, aims to bring all its prestige to the world of cars.

The group will deepen its cross-departmental approach to automotive news content, fostering distribution of content both in print media and online, with the goal of reaching a greater number of readers. Manuel Gómez Blanco will be the new director of Prisa Noticias’ automotive content. His responsibilities will include defining news strategies and priorities, relations with brands – including attendance at press conferences and product presentations – and the coordination of news content across the different media.

Automotive news includes the page on cars in Saturday’s edition of EL PAÍS, the monthly supplement which comes out on the second Saturday of each month in the newspaper, the online ElMotor section, the page in the Business supplement, as well as content in other publishing media such as the El País Semanal weekly supplement and the Ideas supplement.

Plans to expand and develop automotive content also include the online ElMotor section, which will be repositioned on the EL PAÍS website. Content will be updated daily in an effort to offer readers all the important news from the sector. Raúl Romojaro will continue remain at the helm of ElMotor, and will oversee cross-departmental content for the specific automotive pages in the newspapers As and Cinco Días. Marcos Baeza will coordinate the automotive / product news content in EL PAÍS and ElMotor.

Manuel Gómez Blanco holds a degree in Information Science from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. He has worked as a journalist at the Pyresa Agency, and at the Secretary of State for Information. He was the founder of Autohebdo magazine and was manager of Adrián Campos and Luis Pérez-Sala in Formula 3, Formula 3000 and Formula 1 between 1983 and 1989. He has been coordinator of the automotive / product section of EL PAÍS since 1989, with the collaboration of Luis Perez-Sala.
