Santillana promotes expressive reading and oral interpretation with the 12th Public Reading Contest

06-03-2015

Since February 19, primary schoolchildren from 5th and 6th grade, 3rd grade High School students and, for the first time, Baccalaureate students, are being challenged to demonstrate their ability to read with proper diction and vocalization, making appropriate text breaks – all while working together with all their team members. The first phase of this contest ends next March 11 with the winners from Huesca, Zaragoza and Teruel going forward to compete in the regional final, to be held on March 21.

The Public Reading Contest is an initiative that’s being supported by Santillana for the first time this year and is aimed at encouraging students to read aloud, at improving oral communication between students and at developing their literary knowledge. Students are asked to read a text of their choice and another set by the organization in both Spanish and a foreign language (English, French, German), of any genre.

The contest has several categories: for students from 5th and 6th grade of Primary Education, and for ESO Year 3 Secondary students. Also this year, to mark the celebration of the fourth centenary of the publication of the second part of Don Quixote, a new category has been added for Year 1 Baccalaureate students, who will be reading from Don Quixote in Spanish.
