New El País newsroom opens its doors to subscribers

30-06-2016

20 subscribers visited the new El País new newsroom last Wednesday, June 30, accompanied by members of the newspaper’s management who explained the paper’s ongoing transformation.

Pedro Zuazua, communications director of PRISA Noticias, guided the group through the new facility and explained the transformation of the newspaper into a format with a greater focus on digital: the new physical organization of the newsroom, with a central control desk from which all tasks are monitored; a 24-hour working day to better cater to readers´ needs; and the 828 Plan, which allows for three 'closes' or daily editions to review and contextualize the most important stories of the day.

After the visit, subscribers met with Jorge Rivera, deputy editor-in-chief of El País, to learn in greater detail about the transformation of the newspaper as well as the operation and future of the print edition. Bernardo Marín, who oversees the digital channels, was on hand to talk about the importance of the Internet for the newspaper. Finally, Carlos Córdoba, of El Pais Video, explained the day-to-day of the newspaper’s new video channel, currently one of its biggest bets.
