Manolo Lama and Fran Blanco win Radio Academy Awards

Manolo Lama, the technical team behind the sports program Carrusel Deportivo, Fran Blanco -the director of the 40 Principales show Anda Ya- and José Ángel Fuentes were among the winners at the 2009 National Radio Awards, which are given out by the Radio Academy.

More than 500 workers in the radio sector from all over Spain took part in the voting process which saw Manolo Lama emerge as the best narrator of sports events. The journalist was honored for his work coordinating SER reporters at the Beijing Olympics in 2008 as well as at last year's UEFA European Football Championship in Switzerland and Austria.

Also picking up awards are José  Antonio Hernández, Antonio Bravo, Jesús  Mejuto, Javier Rodríguez and Juan Carlos Ingelmo, the technicians behind the weekend sports program Carrusel Deportivo. They won in the category for best sound control and register.

Fran Blanco, the director of morning show Anda Ya, broadcast on 40 Principales, won in the category for best radio format. José Ángel Fuentes, heard regularly on SER, won an award for radio publicity voice.

The awards ceremony takes place on October 30 in Logroño. A representative from the BBC will attend, as the event takes place on the 75th anniversary of BBC's famous Maida Vale Studios in London. The British will be publicly supporting the Spanish proposal to have October 30 declared World Radio Day.
