Planeta Futuro wins SERES Award

25-10-2016

Planeta Futuro, the EL PAÍS section that champions the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), has won a SERES Award, which pay tribute to the social commitments of companies – in this case PRISA.

The awards honor strategic and innovative initiatives that generate value for both society and the company. Now in their seventh year, the SERES Awards promote the social endeavors of companies, and it has become a benchmark for the exchange of best practices in this field.

Planeta Futuro was launched three years ago in collaboration with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and its aim is to strengthen El País coverage of issues that contribute to the social and cultural development of people and the progress of society, and to enrich the political and social debate on these challenges. El País is a truly global newspaper both in its organization and in how it addresses the news. Planeta Futuro shares this global ambition, and features contributions from dozens of journalists from all around the world.

Francisco Román, president of the SERES Foundation, said that "the companies’ commitments to building a new contract with society is not just about philanthropy, it is about real work done, as can be seen, for example,  in the 74 projects in the running for this year’s awards, and in many other such projects undertaken by companies with the goal of creating and sharing value. Companies must rise to the challenge of transformation, and taking a position on social issues is crucial for business in our country."

Three other projects were also honored with awards: and Accenture initiative that promotes collaboration between companies and social organizations, thereby improving employment opportunities for the most disadvantaged; Disjob, for facilitating access to employment for persons with disabilities; and Repsol and its Foundation, for the implementation of inclusion and diversity programs for people with disabilities.
