Sports newspaper AS (AS.com) has won the title of absolute audience leader in Spain for the first time in its history. The latest Comscore report, for the month of April, ranks AS at the top of the league with 17,559,000 unique users, a lead of 606,000 users over its nearest rival, the sports daily Marca.

AS was, in April, the only sports news medium to see its audience climb – with registered growth of 3% (573,000 more users) propelling it into the Number 1 spot. Prisa's sports newspaper also leads in terms of year-on-year growth – with a 49% increase in users (5.8 million more users than in April 2019), compared to average growth of 36% for other sports media. Half of the Spanish digital population (51%) consulted AS content in April. What’s more, when it came to sports, 59% of readers did so too.

At a time when all the world's official sports competitions and fixtures are suspended, AS has kept its readers up-tp-date from just about every angle with regard to the impact of the pandemic on sport (suspensions, training of athletes at home, plans to ease lockdowns for each sport and/or each team, and events held without spectators...)

Meanwhile, some of sport’s biggest names have reached out to AS users and readers through ‘La Futbolería’ – a new weekly program on ASTV – as well as through live talks on the ‘Confinados’ Instagram channel or via the digital sports events ‘Conectados’. In addition, there have been a range of in-depth interviews, as well as in-depth reports and fresh, new narratives that have enabled users to relive some of sport’s greatest ever moments. All this while continuing to meet the basic demand for news and information on the pandemic that’s sweeping the globe.

Thanks to its now solid lead in Spain, AS has consolidated its position worldwide as the gold standard for sports news in Spanish, through its eight editions:Spain, Chile,Colombia,Mexico,USA,Argentina, Peru and Rest of America. AS is the leader in seven of these markets and ranks second in Mexico. The newspaper also has an edition in English and another in Arabic.
