Starting September 11, the seven newspapers who make up the Leading European Newspaper Alliance (LENA) will be offering unprecedented and in-depth coverage of the US elections, with reports from special envoys from all newsrooms of the alliance. This is the first joint LENA initiative of this scale. Over the next two months leading up to the Election Day, 12 journalists from seven newsrooms in six countries will be producing reports and special coverage in a wide range of media, to be published on websites and in the print editions of the alliance partners.

The goal of this LENA initiative is to offer the millions of readers stories, reports, video and photos and to engage original content covering what has become the most decisive electoral campaign in the United States in recent decades.

This special coverage has been essentially designed as a digital operation, although a selection of stories will also appear in the print editions of the LENA partners. Every newspaper will publish the material on a special micro-site within its own network. Furthermore, the hashtag #EuropeGoesUS will group together all publications on social media. Among other activities, each newspaper will feature an interactive map on its website that will allow users through geolocation to track all the journalists involved in the project as well as all the stories, including texts, photos, videos or tweets, as they occur in real time.

LENA was founded in March 2015 and brings together seven of the most important European newspapers: Die Welt in Germany, La Repubblica in Italy, Le Figaro in France, Le Soir in Belgium, EL PAÍS in Spain, Tages-Anzeiger and La Tribune de Genève in Switzerland.
