'V, the sewers of the state': the new Podium Podcast documentary series that sheds light on some of the most controversial chapters in recent spanish history

V, La Cloacas del Estado (V, The Sewers of the State), made exclusively for Podium Podcast by investigative journalist Álvaro de Cózar, recounts the 40 years of democracy in Spain through the eyes of an undercover agent who worked for the State

In his new series, 'V, The Sewers of the State', investigative journalist Álvaro de Cózar looks back over 40 years of democracy in Spain through the eyes of a mysterious and shadowy undercover agent known only as V, who has worked for government and knows the State inside and out. Each 20-minute episode sees Cózar explore some of the most controversial issues that have marked recent Spanish history. Who is this almost legendary figure? Why are so many police in awe of his power and his secrets? How much does V really know? Who protects him? What does he look like?

Cózar travels to Bilbao in an effort to find out more about V’s first assignment. What he learns there will take him back to the time when V was part of the so-called 'uncontrolled', as the Social Investigation Brigade of police fighting against ETA in the 1970s was then known.

According to the author, subsequent chapters will reveal everything about V; in the 1980s, for example, the yuppie banker Mario Conde emerges and begins to crave political power. How far will “the Sewers” go to eliminate him? What role does V play in this dirty war?

This afternoon, starting at 4 pm on Carles Francino’s program La Ventana, María Jesús Espinosa de los Monteros, head of the Podcast Podium project, and Álvaro de Cózar, journalist and author of the investigation, will be telling listeners all they need to know about this new documentary series from PRISA Radio’s network of podcasts in Spanish.
