Ana Borderas wins the National Prize for Cultural Journalism 2011

Ana Borderas, the Cadena SER journalist, was honored Monday with the National Prize for Cultural Journalism 2011. The Ministry of Culture prize recognizes the work of professional journalists and institutions who, through their work or their active participation in the fields of artistic or literary creation, promote culture, thereby enriching Spain's cultural scene.

The award for the journalist, who was born in Eibar in 1962, is worth 20,000 euros. Borderas directs and anchors the culture show La Hora Extra. The program has been on air for almost 20 years and is broadcast every Saturday on Cadena SER, between 7:30 and 8:00am. It reviews the current national and international cultural scene with contributions from broadcast stations and journalists from across the Cadena SER network.

Borderas, a graduate in Information Science from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, began her career as a reporter at Radio Vitoria. In 1985 she joined Onda Madrid where she was head of programming. She also organized and presented the film awards held by this station for four years. In 1992 she joined the Cadena SER News Services. She's been at the helm of La Hora Extra for 13 years.

The awards jury was chaired by the Director General of Books, Archives and Libraries, Rogelio Blanco and included Luis Maria Anson, Elisa González Díaz, Emilio Garcia, Alvaro San Roman Sobrino and Ada Castells.
