AS.com wins best news design award 2010

The jury for the seventh annual ÑH Best News Design, Spain and Portugal 2010, organized by the Spanish branch of the Society for News Design has honored As.com as the best-designed news publication of the year.

The web page of the sports daily won in the category for online publications with more than 12 million page views per month, beating off competition from the Barcelona newspaper La Vanguardia.

There was a record number of candidates in the running this year - 2,384 projects from 70 media outlets in Spain and Portugal, compared to 62 last year. 2,136 nominees came from 53 print media while 248 were from 17 online publications.

As.com also received a special mention for best design for its special Formula 1 pages. In total, the ÑH7 jury handed out 160 medals, nine of them gold, 52 of them silver and a further 99 special mentions.

The jury announced the award winners at the University of Navarra's Media Studies Department on October 2 and the awards ceremony will take place on November 12 in Valencia at the closing of the seventh annual congress of the ÑH Best News Design Spain and Portugal.
