EL PAÍS, in partnership with the Brazilian newspaper Valor Economico, is to host a forum for debate and reflection on Brazil at the Teatro Real in Madrid. The conference will be opened by Dilma Rousseff, President of the Federative Republic of Brazil, who will give the keynote speech, exclusively and for the first time in a forum of this nature. The debate will focus on Brazil's growth in the areas of education and innovation, infrastructure and energy, and will include the participation of a number of political leaders, Spanish and Brazilian business leaders, investors and journalists. The event will take place on Monday, November 19, under the title Brazil: on the road to growth.
The event, which will be inaugurated by President Dilma Rousseff and presented by Juan Luis Cebrian, executive chairman of EL PAÍS, is being organized around two panel discussions: the knowledge economy and the challenges of growth, bringing together Aloizio Mercadante, Brazil’s Minister of Education, José Ignacio Wert, Spain’s Minister of Education, Culture and Sport, Luciano Coutinho, president of BNDES, Glaucius Oliva, president of the CNPq and Javier Monzón, president of INDRA, and to be chaired by the editor-in-chief of Valor Economico, Claudia Safatle.
The second panel, focused on Infrastructure and Energy, includes Santiago Fernández Valbuena, president of Telefónica Latinoamérica, Bernardo Figueiredo, President of Empresa da Planejamento e Logistica, Jose Ignacio Sanchez Galan, chairman of Iberdrola, Mauricio Tolmasquim, president of Empresa Pesquisa Energetica. Javier Moreno, editor-in-chief of EL PAÍS, will chair the debate.
The event will close with a speech from the writer Paulo Coelho.
Attendance is by invitation only. The debates will be broadcast live via streaming at ELPAÍS.com.
