Canal+ series up for 100 Emmys

Canal+ series have landed over 100 nominations for the Emmy Awards, TV's most important prizes. The winners will be announced on September 21.

Mad Men, with 16 nominations, and Damages, with seven, are vying for gongs in all the main categories. Mad Men, which deals with the ups and downs of the advertising world in 1960s New York, already holds two Golden Globes.

Also enjoying a string of nominations is John Adams. Inspired by the life of the 2nd president of the US, it has 23 nominations, including one for Paul Giamatti for Best Actor. Also in with a good chance are Pushing Daisies, with 12 nominations and Recount starring Kevin Spacey, with 11. Entourage, the biting critique of the film and television industry received seven nominations. Also in the running are comedies Weeds and The New Adventures of Old Christine and the historical drama The Tudors. For the first time ever, TV series broadcast by Pay TV outnumber those from Free-To-View.
