Canal+ TV series triumph at the Golden Globes

12-01-2009

After their huge success at the Emmy Awards last September, Canal+ TV shows headed into the Globes with 24 nominations and made off with seven gongs.

HBO production John Adams, broadcast exclusively by Canal+, was the night's big winner. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association gave the series, which chronicles the life of the USA's second president, the award in every category for which it was nominated: Best Miniseries, Best Actress in a Miniseries (Laura Linney), Best Actor in a Miniseries (Paul Giamatti), Best Supporting Actor in a Miniseries (Tom Wilkinson).

Mad Men, set in a 1960s New York ad agency, won the night's most-coveted prize for the second year running: Best Drama. Canal+ has just started broadcasting the second season every Saturday at 10pm. True Blood, meanwhile, was one of the night's big surprises, with Anna Paquin winning for Best Actress in a Drama.

Laura Dern won Best Supporting Actress for her role in HBO-produced Recount. The film, starring Kevin Spacey and John Hurt, is also a Canal+ exclusive. Finally, the film Waltz With Bashir - to be broadcast this summer - won the Globe for best foreign film.
