Carlos Yárnoz wins the Salvador de Madariaga Award for Journalism

El País’s deputy editor-in-chief, Carlos Yárnoz, has won the Salvador de Madariaga Award for Journalism in the news category for his “well-researched and didactic work , whose goal has always been to present the reality of the European Union and its values , contributing thereby to the creation of a European consciousness " , as explained by the jury. The nineteenth edition of the awards, given by the Association of European Journalists, also singled out Carlos Herrera ( Onda Cero ) and Anna Bosch ( TVE ) in the radio and television categories , respectively.

Yárnoz ( Artajona , Navarra , 1953 ) , currently heads the weekend editions of El País and the weekly supplement El País Semanal. He has held a wide range of positions at the newspaper since his arrival in 1983 , including that of the paper’s correspondent in Brussels between 2000 and 2005 . " Throughout his long career , both in Brussels and in Madrid, he has shown that the accuracy of his reporting has never been at odds with his skill at making the construction of Europe accessible to readers ," added the jury , chaired by Miguel Herrero and Rodríguez de Mignon .

In the radio category , the jury paid tribute to Carlos Herrera , (Almería , 1956 ) , director and anchor of Herrera en la Onda , Onda Cero , for " the difficult task of balancing entertainment and dissemination of current affairs in all areas " . Anna Bosch (Barcelona , 1963 ) , who has worked as a correspondent for TVE in London , Washington and Moscow , won in the Television category " for the delicacy of her narrative style and her unique way of telling the news."

The award winners were announced at the headquarters of the Association of European Journalists , in Madrid, and the ceremony will take place on May 9, Europe Day, in Tenerife .
