Cuatro wins three Television Academy awards

Cuatro's programs El Hormiguero and Callejeros, as well as the channel's team responsible for promoting the station's coverage of the UEFA Cup in Austria and Switzerland, have all been honored at the 11th annual Television Academy Awards. The awards were given to the best professionals and programs in the sector for the year 2008.

El Hormiguero, nominated in three categories, was chosen by the members of the Academy as the best entertainment program. Directed and presented by Pablo Motos, El Hormiguero ended its current season with an 11% audience share and almost 2,000,000 viewers daily, making it the second most-watched entertainment program on Spanish television. What's more, the program is a huge hit with younger viewers, enjoying a robust lead among young people (15.9%) as well as being the most popular daily entertainment program among children (18.7%).

Last May, El Hormiguero received the prestigious Rose d'Or award, thus establishing itself as one of the best European productions of 2009.

With it's latest award, Callejeros can now boast four academy prizes. The program, directed by Carolina Cubillo, has become a benchmark for successful prime-time current affairs programs, with 2,130,000 viewers and an audience share of 13%. It has been lauded by the public and critics alike. In the most recent TV survey, by Estudio de Imagen GECA, Callejeros emerged as the most-valued program among the public.

Cuatro has capped its success with an award for the team in charge of the self-promotion advertising spots for the UEFA Cup in Austria and Switzerland in 2008. Members of the Academy recognized the work of the team led by Iñaki Marticorena, creative director of Cuatro, by awarding him first prize in the category Best Director.

Last may, the graphic talents and creativity of Cuatro was honored with the prize Grand LAUS, given by the  Asociación de Directores Gráficos (ADG) de Fomento de las Artes y el Diseño (FAD). The TV channel also won the Silver LAUS for Best Post-Production for the "2balls", the now-famous balls that follow around Cuatro's presenters. There was also a Bronze LAUS in the category Best Animation for the Cuatrobots, the robotized avatars of the Spanish national football team, which appeared during the UEFA Cup.
