Water is a scarce and essential resource: the wealth or poverty of entire regions depends largely on their water resources. Furthermore, according to the United Nations, in 2025 the global demand for water will be 56% higher than the available supply. The scarcity of this most basic of resources is fast becoming a global threat. In this context, is access to clean water a basic human right or should we treat it as a marketable commodity? And how do we guarantee effective management?
To discuss these issues, EL PAÍS and the Botín Foundation are bringing together Enrique Cabrera, Professor of Fluid Mechanics at the Polytechnic University of Valencia; Antonio Enbid Irujo, Professor of Administrative Law at the University of Zaragoza, Nuria Hernandez Mora, economist at the Fundación Nueva Cultura del Agua, and Asunción Martínez García, Director of Concessions at Agbar. The event will take place this Thursday March 20 at 7 pm., at the headquarters of the Botin Foundation.
