EL PAÍS to revamp the weekend with S Moda magazine

20-09-2011

EL PAÍS will strengthen its weekend editorial offering with the new S Moda magazine, a glossy one-stop shop for everything from the world of fashion, trends, beauty, decor, travel and all the latest in film and literature. The magazine will come with the Saturday newspaper and will offer a weekly review of celebrity culture and the movers and shakers of the fashion world. In an effort to broaden the appeal of weekend content, the travel supplement El Viajero now moves to Friday and will boast a new look and revamped content.

S Moda, published by PRISA and Condé Nast (responsible for high-end magazines such as Vogue, Vanity Fair and Glamour) and with journalist Oscar Becerra at the helm, will launch on Saturday September 24 with EL PAÍS. Both media groups share the values behind this new publication: great journalism, innovation and visual quality, as well as a bold design and lavish photography. The publication, aimed at a female audience eager to be up-to-date with all the latest trends, will be distributed in conjunction with the paper, which will cost 1.50 euros on Saturday. A smiling Sarah Jessica Parker appears on the first magazine cover, dressed in a bolero jacket, with the US actress giving an exclusive interview and posing for a photo shoot in New York to show off style with roots in Spain.

Initially, S Moda will have over 200 pages. Dynamic and with a contemporary spirit, it aims to meet the demands of discerning women who strive to to be well informed about the latest trends in fashion and beauty. It will offer interviews with people in the news, analysis of different social challenges, ideas for travel, entertainment and design.

S Moda, which hits the kiosk accompanied by a powerful website (www.smoda.es) and a free application for iPhone, will be a weekly appointment with EL PAÍS readers, especially female ones, who'll be given a fresh take on fashion, current affairs from a female perspective, trends in beauty and the latest in culture, travel and decor. The website provides up-to-the-minute news and connects readers directly with the editor and writers of the magazine.

S Moda will treat fashion as a concept that goes far beyond the catwalks, understanding it as an attitude and as a crucial cultural expression of aesthetics. Which is why lavish visual fashion reports by renowned photographers will be key in the Style section. There'll also be more practical sections, with in-depth shopping pages telling readers how to get the look at affordable prices.

The world of beauty also has a special place in the magazine, with articles that address the issue from the standpoint of personal care and well being. There's advice about specific products on the market, backed by the best professionals, and research articles that deal naturally with  how to improve one's image. Other sections take a look at leading figures from the worlds of politics and the arts, and their personal views on style.

S Moda comes with its own web site smoda.es, which takes the magazine experience online. Updated every minute, it can be accessed from the pages of ELPAÍS.com and completes the newspaper's digital offer with all the latest news on style and trends. Visitors to the site and those who follow it through social networks will find exclusive reports, audiovisual content and "making of" features taking them behind the scenes of the magazine.

The magazine's writers will scour the media every day to recommend what's not to be missed. The best looks of the readers will be selected and given prizes in the Coolhunter section. And blogs will provide step by step advice, through videos, on the tricks of makeup experts, or reveal to readers what inspires celebrities. Another blog will follow the life of a woman over the course of 100 days of experiments with fashion and beauty. The iPhone version of S Moda will also be available for free download starting next Saturday, providing an alternative way of experiencing the web site.
