El País circulation up 5% so far this year

El País's circulation has seen a 5% growth so far this year, with the paper strengthening its position as market leader among the Spanish non-giveaway press and widening its lead over its competitors. Between January and May, PRISA's general news title enjoyed an average daily circulation of 461,445 copies up from 439,446 over the same period last year.

These figures put the paper 120,000 copies ahead of its nearest competitor. On Sundays, El Pais's lead is even more striking - at 78% and 783,837 copies.

Among the sports papers, As has reached an average daily figure of 236,522 copies over the last five months, up 7% over the same period last year. The paper is now just 17,000 copies behind the market leader.

Among the business papers, Cinco Días continues its upward trend and has seen its average daily circulation climb by 2% to 42,334 copies.
