El País partners with newspaper Nuevo Herald for joint edition in Miami

07-03-2011

El País is set to broaden its horizons and boost its presence across the Atlantic. The global newspaper in Spanish, published by Grupo PRISA, will be sold in the U.S. starting tomorrow along with the Miami daily Nuevo Herald. The joint edition will reach most subscribers to the U.S. newspaper and will also be available at key newsstands in the city of Miami.

With this deal El País is expanding its distribution base in the Americas, where it already has forged partnerships with newspapers in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico and the Dominican Republic.

Florida's edition of El País will be printed and distributed by Miami Herald Media Company. It will be available on newsstands Monday through Fridays at $ 0,50. Content will be aimed at a public with an interest in world affairs, with an emphasis on international news, business and culture, and will be selected by El País's editorial staff.

Quality newspapers

The partnership with the Nuevo Herald brings together two reputable, quality papers. The Nuevo Herald is an independent newspaper established in 1998, although it was previously published as a supplement to the Miami Herald. It enjoys widespread influence throughout Latin America and the Caribbean, is the top-selling Sunday paper in Spanish in the U.S. and ranks second Monday through Saturday. Circulation is at 69,784 copies daily and 84,972 on Sundays. Its website receives an average of 11.3 million monthly visitors. In 2002 it was awarded the Ortega y Gasset Award.

El País is the top-selling and most influential newspaper in the Spanish-speaking world (with over 400,000 copies daily last January). It was founded in 1976 as an independent, quality newspaper, with a European perspective and a commitment to multiparty democracy. Outside Spain it has offices in Washington and Brussels and a broad network of correspondents (in Mexico City, Moscow, Paris, Rome, London, Berlin, Lisbon, Jerusalem, Buenos Aires, Tehran and Beijing).

Grupo PRISA is already present in the U.S. through several radio stations and has a stake in the Spanish-language television channel V-me.
