El País reconfirms and widens its lead in 2008

In what's been a difficult year for the print media, El País enjoyed a slight increase over the period January-September, thus both strengthening and widening its lead over its nearest rival by 109,758 copies. Between January and November, accumulated circulation figures for El País were 435,218 copies daily, according to the latest, as yet uncertified, data from the auditing bureau OJD.

In monthly terms, El País, saw sales figures remain steady through November at 422,455 copies, while the second-ranking newspaper saw circulation fall by 6%.

Among the sports papers, As posted accumulated figures of 232,179 copies, a 1% fall. In November, the trend was positive, with the paper reporting an increase of 5%.

In the financial and business press sector, Cinco Días was up 10% in November and 1% over the course of the entire year achieving an average daily circulation of 42,394 copies, compared with 51,975 copies for its nearest rival.
