El País signs distribution deal with Chile's La Tercera

02-11-2010

El País, the world's leading newspaper in Spanish, continues to grow in Latin America. Starting today, Grupo PRISA's daily paper is to be distributed in Chile along with La Tercera thanks to a partnership deal similar to those already reached with newspapers in Argentina, Mexico and the Dominican Republic, where distribution has increased by 260% in the past year.

Readers of La Tercera can now avail of a version of El País especially tailored to Latin America based on the Spanish newspaper's content and from its political, economic, social and cultural editorial standpoint.

"Like with similar agreements with major Latin American newspapers, we are very pleased to team up with another major paper such as La Tercera, to tackle and address the significant shifts that contemporary journalism is currently undergoing," said the deputy editor-in-chief of El País, José Manuel Calvo. For the general manager of La Tercera, Francisco Sánchez Barros, "the fact that El País has chosen La Tercera for this latest distribution deal is both a recognition of our position of leadership in the media and a confirmation that our newspaper is a relevant, pluralistic and innovative media outlet that is in tune with the interests of the reader and trends in society. "

The Latin American edition of El País has 48 pages Monday through Sunday, and also includes the culture, Sunday and business supplements (Babelia, Domingo and Negocios).

Copies of El País will be distributed along with La Tercera, subject to subscription, starting today. In addition to the print edition, PRISA's newspaper publishes a global Internet edition containing special content for different areas: Latin America, United States, Europe and the Middle East. PRISA has a strong presence in Chile through the Santillana publishing house and Iberoamericana Radio Chile (IARC), the leading radio network in the country, operating through 140 stations and broadcasting via eight different formats.
