El País widens its lead

El País has strengthened its lead among the Spanish press, closing May with a circulation of 391,602 copies daily, 2% more than the same month last year, according to figures from audit bureau OJD, pending certification. PRISA's daily paper has widened its lead over its nearest competitor, beating it by 92,000 copies.

Among the sports papers, As was once again the top-ranking paper in the Madrid region, with a 53.7% market share, in the period from January through May of this year. The sports daily also enjoys a lead in Barcelona, with 50.3%.
