05-11-2009

Fundación Telefónica, FCC (Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas) and TEAMS have won this year's Cinco Dias Awards for Business Innovation, which honor the most innovative initiatives in the business world across three categories:

Most Innovative Business Initiative in the field of Corporate Social Responsibility:

Fundación Telefónica, for its project  Educared-Proniño, aimed at eradicating child labor in Latin America.

Most Innovative Business Initiative in the field of New Technologies:

FCC (Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas), for its sustainable rubbish collection project which uses small hybrid-electric trucks that can service areas previously difficult to access.

Most Innovative Business Initiative in association with a university:

TEAMS, a spin-off of the University of Seville that has developed technology for the Airbus 380.

The prizes, sponsored by Spain's veteran business and finance daily -and owned by Grupo PRISA- are in their second year and the winners were selected from among over a hundred candidates in Madrid on November 5.

The jury led by Emilio Ontiveros, founder and president of Analistas Financieros Internacionales, included Ana Patricia Botín, president of BANESTO; Javier Monzón, president of Indra; José Núñez, president of Alquimia; Joaquín Estefanía, director of the UAM/El País School of Journalism; and Jorge Rivera, director of Cinco Días.

The awards, established last year to coincide with celebrations to mark 30 years of the Economy under Democracy, are sponsored by Gas Natural, Unión Fenosa, La Caixa and Repsol.

Prize-winners will pick up their awards - a commemorative sculpture by the artist Cristina Iglesias - at a special gala on November 16 at Madrid's Círculo de Bellas Artes.
