Javier Cortezón, new director general of Unión Radio

Unión Radio, as part of its Strategic Development Plan aimed at consolidating growth targets, the implementation of a strategy for development and adaptation to the new technological challenges of the market, has decided to strengthen its management structure by appointing Javier Cortezón as Director General of Union Radio, and Javier Viroomal as director of Union Radio's Digital Radio Division. Unión Radio is a the leading Spanish-language radio group, with operations in 10 countries and with more than 26 million listeners and 13 million web users.

Javier Cortezón was until now Deputy Director General of Unión Radio, a position he held since 2006. Cortezón joined Grupo PRISA in 1996 as financial controller of the newspaper El País, a position he held until 2000 when he was appointed finance director of GMI. In 2002 he was named head of Media Management Control for Spain, and in 2004 he joined the Directorate General of Operations for PRISA International. Javier Cortezón has a BA in Economics from the Universidad Autonoma de Madrid and a Master's in Tax and Fiscal Policy from ESADE. He completed his academic education with the Management Development and Senior Management programs at the IESE Business School.

Javier Viroomal Carreño, meanwhile, has been appointed director of Union Radio's Digital Radio Division, a newly created position that responds to the ongoing adaptation process of the company to the challenges of the current digital world. Javier Viroomal will be responsible for the digital development of Union Radio in all its areas of activity: spoken-word and music radio, live music, music television and brand extension, in addition to strengthening existing web and mobile channels, as well as future such operations.

Javier has a degree in Law from the Universidad Autonoma de Madrid and an MBA in E-Business from the Instituto de Empresa. He has held senior positions as Director of Marketing and Business Development in technology companies in the leisure sector such as Grupo ZED and Entradas.com. At Grupo PRISA, he served as Director of Mobility at Prisacom SA and till now directed the Department of Digital Channels at Gran Via Musical.
