20-09-2013

El País is to improve its weekend offer . Starting this Friday, with the purchase of the newspaper, readers will receive a free copy of the Guía del Ocio ,the leading newsstand publication for those seeking all the latest, up-to-date news on cinema, leisure, restaurants, theater  and entertainment. With this joint venture between the two leading titles, which takes effect on Friday September 20, the content that the newspaper had been offering through its On Madrid supplement will be integrated into the new, free Guía del Ocio. The Guía del Ocio will be available on newsstands at its regular price over the rest of the week.

The Guía del Ocio is the most valued publication in its category by readers. It’s easy to see why: reliability and track record. As well as comprehensive listings and updates on bars and restaurants, theater productions , museums and art centers , concerts and nightclubs , the magazine has an almost four-decade relationship with readers in Madrid. The first issue was published 38 years ago in 1975. Since then, there has been no better, easier-to-use, more widely distributed or detailed guide to what’s on.

To celebrate the joint launch on Friday, September 20, newspaper readers will receive two issues: the regular publication and a special issue dedicated to the new theater season in Madrid. This special offer - the two magazines plus the newspaper at the usual price of 1.30 euros -- will be repeated on the occasion of the publication of the Summer and Christmas specials, as well as with monthly issues devoted to children's entertainment .

The launch will also mark another milestone: the Guía del Ocio is unveiling a brand-new look and boasts more content than ever before (great, new ideas , reports, home entertainment ... ) . With the aim of capturing the busy pulse of Madrid and its wide range of new urban leisure activities, the magazine will open with a new section called In-Depth, that will address topics of interest in greater depth -- be they current or emerging trends and styles. This latest feature is in addition to the current section Open Madrid, which covers the most important events of the week. There’s also a section covering home entertainment releases including DVD highlights, books, comics , video games, applications and so on. All this while maintaining popular, regular sections on shows, leisure and culture.

As always, the Guía del Ocio, besides the new sections, will be reporting on all the latest news and movie premieres , music, art, sport, theater , dance, drinks and evening entertainment , children's entertainment , classical music, mini breaks , bullfighting and restaurants, with updates, reviews and interviews with the protagonists. This information is further supplemented by listings, a what’s on calendar, telling readers all they need to know about leisure in the city .

The new Guía del Ocio will boast a fresher, more modern and dynamic look, that will reflect the vitality of Madrid and its people. The aim is not merely to inform, but also to illustrate the attractions of the capital with the most striking and dramatic images. The next phase of this joint venture will involve digital content development , which will be incorporated into the El País website, allowing readers access to updated entertainment listings throughout Spain .
