PRISA in negotiations with new Portuguese investors for Media Capital

PRISA has entered into negotiations for the entry of new Portuguese investors in Media Capital, its Portuguese subsidiary. After the Portuguese Competition Authority ruled against operations with the company Ongoing, Grupo PRISA has received strong expressions of interest from Miguel Pais do Amaral, a former leading shareholder of Media Capital, to acquire a minority stake in the company.

Within the last few hours, extremely positive discussions in this direction have got underway. Grupo PRISA heads have welcomed the possible return of Miguel Pais do Amaral to Media Capital. Amaral was driving force behind the company for many years.

Media Capital is the largest group in the media sector in Portugal. In television, it operates TVI, the country's leading free-to-view channel and TVI24, the 24-hour news channel. In radio, it is the country's second largest national operator (with the stations  Radio Commercial, Radio Clube Português, Cidade FM, M80, Romantica FM, Best Rock, as well as the online radio broadcaster Cotonete). It also owns the company Media Capital Multimedia, whose main asset is the IOL portal, Portugal's second largest.

It also operates in other business areas such as video production, through Plural Entertainment, the leading producer of Portuguese TV drama, has a record publishing label and is active in the production of musical events (Farol) and distribution of film rights (Castelo Lopes Multimedia).
