PRISA launches Apps for Boxee as part of its strategy to expand content to new formats

30-09-2011

PRISA will thus expand the distribution of content, allowing readers of the electronic editions of EL PAÍS, AS and Los40 to enjoy all their favorite content on their TVs with Boxee Box by D-Link. PRISA has developed three new applications for Boxee, bringing its leading online portals to the small screen, where they can be accessed directly and easily via the Boxee Box.

The EL PAÍS application lets users view the top headlines of the day, breaking news, current events in photos and videos, cartoons, and the football league tables. The AS app provides all the latest news, results of the day, the football league tables and all the photos of the day. The Los40 app lets you listen to the Top 40 music radio network live, check out tour and concert dates as well as news on the top singers and bands.

D-Link's  Boxee Box lets users  enjoy their favorite movies and shows available on the Internet on their TV directly from the couch, in high definition with a complete, simple remote control. The Boxee Box merely needs to be connected to the TV, enabling users to choose what to watch and when to do so, from a wide range of content offered online, as well as any content (photos, music, videos ...) stored on a computer, a NAS storage device or a USB memory. Additionally, Boxee Box is connected to social platforms like Facebook or Twitter to share content being viewed.

"At D-Link we're always looking for ways for our users to get the most out of their Boxee Box, either by introducing new services or increasing access to content and local services; with the new applications from El Pais, AS and Los40 we can offer Spanish users new content in their language, with the trademark quality in media that sets Prisa apart," said Luigi Salmoiraghi, Sales & Marketing Director of D-Link for Southern Europe.

D-Link's  Boxee Box continues to set the industry standard for the future of smart TV, which is emerging as one of the key growth segments for the coming years. Boxee Box has sold over 2 million devices in the U.S..

According to Rafael de los Santos, director of business development at PRISA Digital, "This shows clearly the continued execution of PRISA's multi-device, multi-national digital expansion strategy".
