PRISA launches Planeo, its new online discount shopping site

16-05-2011

Planeo, PRISA's first direct e-commerce business that offers a selection of discounts for leisure, travel, sports and top-of-the-range beauty products goes live today, kicking off with the best deals around on luxury city hotels and a selection of world-renowned restaurants. Planeo also offers unbeatable standards of quality in leisure and beauty.

Planeo will cross promote all its deals and offers across all PRISA media, including El País, As, Cadena SER and 40 Principales, offering local advertisers a potent media presence to promote their business.

According to Mr. Kamal Bherwani, Chief Digital Officer of PRISA, "Planeo is an example of how the combination of off-line and digital capabilities allows for an unbeatable advantage over companies that don't have both assets."

Ahead of the launch, PRISA unveiled a special promotion on April 27 allowing users to participate by registering on the website to win a year's worth of discount plans and free activities valued at 5,000 euros. The initiative proved a success, with the website reporting a huge influx of visitors and a significant number of registered users.

The launch of Planeo has excited considerable interest in the Internet community and in the media, where it has been widely covered. The online shopping sector is currently one of the most attractive in terms of both growth and revenues enjoyed by some of the leading operators in the market.

PRISA is the world's leading company in the production and distribution of cultural, educational, news and entertainment content in the Spanish and Portuguese language markets, thanks to its multichannel offer of top quality products. The Group is present in 22 countries, and reaches over 50 million users through its global brands El País, 40 Principales, Santillana and Alfaguara. As a leading group in general-interest press, free-to-view TV and pay TV, spoken-word radio and music radio, education, and publishing, it is one of the most profitable media groups in the world, with an extraordinary range of assets.
