PRISA posts pre-tax profit of 287.36 million euros, up 16.9 %

• Operating income is up 8.8% to 2,011.01 million euros, while earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) are up 16.9% totalling 287.36 million euros. Headline profits (EBITDA) are up 7.1% at 405.67 million euros. The net result is 86.93 million euros, up 18.6%.

• Operating cash flow grew by 23.65% to 264 million euros and EBIT margin is up 14.3%.

• Advertising revenues are up 4.6%. Most notable are the increases for audiovisual (+16.2%), especially for TV channel Cuatro (+22.3%), Sogecable (+20%) and Media Capital (+12,7%). Radio is up 3.7% and Prisacom un 38.8%.

• International concerns make up 18% of income. In America, there has been a 17% climb, with radio up 29%.

• Santillana's revenues are up by 15.1%and its EBITDA is up 23% to 51.11 million euros, with significant increases in Brazil (+32.7%), Argentina (+13.3%) and Peru (+103%).

• Newspaper and magazine sales are up 5%. El País has seen circulation climb by 4.2%, As is up 6.1% and Cinco Días, 1.7%.

• Sogecable has see n income rise by 5.9% as compared to the same six-month period last year, pushing it over the 1,000 million euro mark for the first time.

• Cuatro had an average audience share figure of 13.1% in June and a 9,3% share for the period January-June.

• TVI enjoyed its best ever figures in June, with an average daily share of 39.8%, increasing to 47.4% at prime time. The channel thus consolidates its position of leadership in the Portuguese market.

Operating income is up 8.8% to 2,011.01 million euros, as compared to 1, 848.35 million for the same period last year, while net profits grow to 86.93 million euros, up 18.6%.

Book and text book sales

Income deriving from book and text book sales are up 16.8% reaching 254.99 million euros, compared to 218.37 million for the same period last year.

Particularly strong was growth in Brazil (+32.7%) which now accounts for 26% of the Group's volume in this sector, Argentina (+13.3%) and Peru (+103%).Spain is also showing excellent potential for growth.

El País strengthens its lead in press

Newspaper and magazine sales revenues are at 108.56 million euros, up 5%.

Average daily distribution for El País grew 4.2% to 459,718 copies up from 441,306 in 2007. With regards to readership figures, El País Semanal has grown 5% as compared to the same period in 2007 and the paper has reconfirmed its top ranking among the non-giveaway press, recording 2,274,000 readers, up 4.2% (second round of EGM figures).

Sports paper As has also seen its average daily circulation grow by 6.1%%, reaching a total of 238,864 copies consolidating its upward trend. With a total of 1,272,000 readers, according to second-round EGM figures, As has reached its highest ever readership figures after gaining 205,000 readers in one year.

Business and finance paper Cinco Días has recorded growth of 29.4% in readership, totalling 88,000 readers, its best ever figure.

Pay TV

Subscriptions to DIGITAL+ have reached 2,078,000 (June 30, 2008). Derived income has grown to 593.09 million euros (+1%).

Free-to-view TV

Cuatro has positioned itself as the fastest growing free-to-air channel at prime time. After just two years broadcasting, Cuatro has posted an average audience share of 9.3% in the first half of 2008. During June, audience share hit 13.1%, a figure which was boosted by . Euro 2008, which was the most-watched sports events in television history.

In the prime-time slot, Cuatro enjoyed an audience share of 21% in June.

TVI, Media Capital's free-to-view TV channel, remains audience leader in Portugal, both around the clock (39.8%) as well as at prime time (47.4%). Much of it's success over the first half of 2008 can be attributed to the broadcast of popular, quality and locally-produced series as well as Euro 2008, which garnered record audiences in Portugal.
