PRISA lends its support to the Reina Sofía Foundation’s Operación Frío

05-11-2020

The campaign seeks to raise awareness about the need for refrigerators at food banks so that these can store and distribute fresh produce.

The Reina Sofía Foundation and the Spanish Federation of Food Banks joined forces in 2012 to start a project to enable Food Banks to acquire refrigerators, thereby allowing them to receive, store and distribute perishable food. The initiative, called Operación Frío (Operation Cold), now enjoys the support of PRISA.

El País, Cadena SER, Los 40 Classic and Cadena Dial have teamed up to throw their weight behind campaign that seeks to raise awareness among donors to food banks of the need to contribute funds to help purchase refrigerators for fresh produce rather than contribute staples such as rice, pasta or legumes.

The initiative encourages donations so that the Food Banks in Spain can acquire refrigerators so that they can store and distribute fresh food in response to the social emergency caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, which has highlighted the need to radically transform our food systems in order to make them more efficient and sustainable for people and the planet. You can make donations to the campaign here.
