Roberto Alcántara and John Paton, join PRISA´S board of Directors

The Board of Directors of PRISA, the world's leading communication, education and entertainment group in Spanish and Portuguese, yesterday agreed to appoint two new directors: Mexican businessman Roberto Alcántara Rojas; and the CEO and

founder of the U.S. group Digital First Media, John Paton.

The appointment of these new directors reflects the Ibero-American vocation of PRISA and its firm commitment to Latin America as the main focus of the Group's operations. It also further strengthens the Group’s goal of responding to the challenges of new technologies across all fields of information.

Roberto Alcántara Rojas (Mexico, 1950), a businessman involved in the long-haul transport sector, is owner and president of Toluca Group and the low-cost airline VivaAerobus, which he founded in 2006 with the Irish carrier Ryanair. He is the controlling shareholder and chairman of the Board of Directors of the consortium Iamsa – Investors in Mexican Transport – which encompasses the five largest bus companies in Mexico. Between 1991 and 1999 he was Chairman of the Board of Directors of BanCrecer, SA. Alcántara has also been included in the list of Top 100 Mexican executives, produced annually by CNN.

John Paton (Glasgow, 1957) is CEO of Digital First Media, the second largest newspaper group in the United States, and the eighth-ranking news group in terms of Internet audiences, producing a total of 75 newspapers and 800 digital and online products. The group has more 10,000 employees and serves 61 million customers per month. He has been a member of the Board of Directors of EL PAÍS since May 2013.

Paton has developed a successful career in the newspaper sector, where he has been responsible for both print and online publications in the U.S., Canada, France and Spain. In 1998 he made his first foray into the Internet. He went on to direct the news portal, canoe.com, an icon of digital media in his adopted country, Canada. He is cofounder of Impremedia, the largest news and information company for Hispanics in the US. In April 2009 he was named Publisher of the Year by Editor & Publisher. He is a member of the Board of Advisors for the City University of New York Graduate School of Journalism. Mr. Paton is a graduate of Ryerson University’s journalism program and the Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration.
