Andrés Varela Entrecanales (Madrid, 1961). After studying at the Colegio Estudio and at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, in 1985 he began his career as a journalist and presenter on Radio El País music programs. In 1986 he moved to London, where he worked for BBC Radio and Warner Music, as well as on the launch of Channel 10 in Spain. In 1990 he returned to Spain and joined Canal Plus from the start of its broadcasts, working in the channel's in-house promotions department. As a founding partner of GECA, he chaired the television consultancy from 1993 to 1997, specializing in audience analysis and programming trends. In 1995 GECA merged with Globomedia, and he combined his executive responsibilities there with the role of Director of Entertainment Programs, producing more than 20 entertainment programs in Spain and Latin America through Promofilm. Following the subsequent merger of Globomedia and Mediapro, he became a partner and director of Grupo Imagina and a director of La Sexta from its launch in 2006. In 2015 he left Grupo Imagina to found and chair The Pool TM, an audiovisual production company. In 2025, The Pool TM merged with WAKAI to form a new audiovisual group, WAP MEDIA GROUP.
His family group has been a shareholder of PRISA since its founding, and he served on the board of SER for two years.
