El País and The Guardian lead a news network on climate change

29-06-2015

Twenty-five news organizations from around the world, led by the Spanish newspaper El País and Britain's The Guardian, have created a new network of publishers to collaborate in their coverage of climate change. The initiative is coordinated by the Global Editors Network and aims to improve information on this issue ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP21), to be held in December in Paris.

The Climate Publishers Network (CPN) provides a system for sharing climate change-related articles for free during the run-up to COP21. Each media can publish material in this network without having to worry about publishing rights. The aim of this collaboration is to expand coverage by all participating media ahead of the Climate Change Conference, thereby ensuring that all coverage is as comprehensive and rigorous as possible.

The 25 founding members of the CPN network – brought together by the Global Editors Network, El País and The Guardian – will maintain the initiative for a period of six months, ending on December 11, the last day of the Conference on Climate Change. The founding members represent a wide range of outlooks  – from the China Daily in China to Politiken in Denmark, and also include Al Ahram in Egypt and Clarin in Argentina. They are based all over the world: Africa, Asia, North America, South America, Europe and the Middle East. Other participating media are Le Monde in France; La Repubblica, Italy; Frankfurter Allgemeine in Germany; The Seattle Times, USA; or India Today, India.
