New Café Crea event: Can emotions open the door to learning?

26-05-2015

According to neurosciences, we have an emotional brain (Le Doux, 1999) that activates conscious processes related to the qualitative aspects of experience (Bordes, 2000). So here at Café Crea we’re setting out to discover how emotion and learning are linked.

Organized in collaboration with the  Real Conservatorio Superior de Música de Madrid

(the Madrid Royal Music Conservatory), the debate will take place on May 28, 2015 at its headquarters (C / Santa Isabel, 53) at 7pm. In addition, you can also follow via streaming at thislink.

The discussion will address the relationship between pedagogy and emotion from a range of approaches. First of all, we’ll be looking at the latest advances in neuroscience on how emotions influence learning, and the interaction between the two. We’ll also have time to explore how to manage emotions in the classroom and the tools available to teachers to nurture this skill, as well as the relationship between creativity, emotion and meaningful learning, with examples such as the benefits of music in learning.

This promises to be a debate full of fascinating surprises, bringing together experts in education, students and families in an effort to answer, among others, the following questions:

- Can emotions open the door to learning?

- What are the most appropriate formats for introducing emotional education in different educational contexts? - As part of a specific curriculum? Cross-curricular learning? An Emotional Education Act?

- How can the family contribute?

- Would our career prospects be enhanced if we educated our emotions during our school years?
