Prisa Noticias and Wolters Kluwer team up to offer readers content from the legal world

06-04-2017

PRISA Noticias and Wolters Kluwer in Spain have agreed on a strategic alliance for the production and distribution of specialized news and information on legal matters, legal developments, regulated industries, and business and finance – with the aim of becoming the go-to source of news for both experts and the general public alike.

Wolters Kluwer will provide relevant information in the areas covered by EL PAÍS Economía, the website that, since April 2, has been offering readers the specialized – and digital outlook – of Cinco Días and Retina. Content, including news and real-life cases, is aimed at legal professionals, companies and consultants, as well as society at large.

Under the agreement, Wolters Kluwer will oversee the section Mis Derechos (My Rights) in the revamped business and finance section of EL PAÍS, as well as the Legal section in Cinco Días. Some of this content will also be published in the print editions of both papers.

The partnership comes at a time when professionals from regulated industries are embracing digital transformation and reinvention, driven by key factors affecting their activity (technological revolution, Artificial Intelligence, concentration of firms, threats from new entrants, outsourcing of services, robotics, automation, cybersecurity...). In this landscape, digital and print editions of both newspapers will be offering all the news and information that professionals need if they are to keep abreast of all developments relevant to the exercise of their profession.

Meanwhile, readers will be offered a new section in EL PAÍS, which will explain, in easy-to-understand language, the impact of legislative and legal developments on society, as well as analysis of real case studies with broad repercussions.

Vicente Sánchez Velasco, CEO of Wolters Kluwer in Spain and Portugal, said that "the partnership with PRISA Noticias is a qualitative leap for my company in Spain, reinforcing the positioning of our Legal & Regulatory and Tax & Accounting divisions. The result is undoubtedly a surefire bet at a time of great complexity for the regulatory framework at a national and international level".

Meanwhile, Manuel Mirat , CEO of EL PAÍS and PRISA Noticias, stressed that "one of the keys to riding the wave of the digital transformation sweeping the media is to be where our readers are. We’re adapting to the way they view news, with new narratives and new platforms. All this without losing sight of two of the principles of journalism: to inform and to educate. The agreement with Wolters Kluwer will allow EL PAÍS Economía – which is reinforced by Cinco Días and Retina to offer more business news in Spanish than any other outlet – to bring our readers legal content of enormous interest. Content that is presented in an engaging and practical manner, that will be useful for both professionals and the general public ".
