The Cinco Días Awards for Business Innovation have announced the winners of the thirteenth annual outing for the prestigious prizes. This year’s winners are: CHM, Obras e Infraestructuras; Applus +; Quirónsalud; Snippet; and María Río.

The award for the Most Innovative Business Initiative in the field of New Technologies has gone to CHM, Obras e Infraestructuras, for the project Repara 2.0, which develops new techniques and information systems for the sustainable rehabilitation of pavements and roads, using materials which decrease the surface temperature and, consequently, the environmental temperature due to the solar radiation.

The jury lauded the project, saying that it is an "original, different and timely project that not only reduces emissions and energy use, but also provides greater safety for pedestrians and drivers."

The Award for Most Innovative Business Initiative in the category of Corporate Social Responsibility has been awarded to Applus +, for its initiative Sin Límites (Without Limits), which successfully integrates the principles of Integrity, Transparency, Impartiality, Independence and Responsibility into the company culture. The project involves the active participation of more than 23,000 employees in more than 70 countries worldwide.

The jury praised the initiative, highlighting "the very real involvement of the business, which is including its employees in a CSR project", and stressed that it has "a real impact on real people".

The Award for Most Innovative Business Initiative linked to a University has been given to Quirónsalud for Talent Beats, a nursing school project that seeks to design and implement innovative work experience placements adapted to the current needs of hospitals, and which embraces appropriate practical training while nurturing the vocation and commitment of students.

According to the jury, the  program "offers real advantages for students, universities and hospitals." The program also gives due credit to "health professionals whose work, beyond the current circumstances, deserves to be recognized and perceived as important and necessary."

This year’s Cinco Días Awards also saw two new categories.

The Award for the Most Innovative Start-Up has gone to Snippet, which seeks to create unique and personalized experiences through technology.

The jury praised the company’s successful individualization of video in real time. “This is a truly innovative project, of great technical complexity and with enormous potential. It is original, engaging and is helping to transform the companies they work with.”

The Award for the Most Innovative Manager has gone to María Río, vice chairperson of Gilead Spain, a pharmaceutical research company focused on the discovery, development and sale of innovative drugs in areas of unmet medical needs.

The jury lauded "her leadership and commitment to development at a time when these are more necessary than ever." Río, who holds a degree in Pharmacy from the University of Santiago de Compostela, has a successful track record of more than 20 years in the pharmaceutical industry. The jury added that the award is also "a recognition of the role of science in business management."

The awards will be presented on October 22 at 8:00 p.m. at CaixaForum Madrid, in an event being held behind closed doors. The ceremony will be broadcast on the CincoDías website. The Cinco Días Awards are sponsored by Repsol and CaixaBank.

Sitting on the jury this year were: Fuencisla Clemares, CEO of Google in Spain and Portugal; Helena Herrero, Chair and CEO of HP in Spain and Portugal; Jorge Rivera, PRISA Communications Director; Carina Szpilka, president of the Spanish Association for the Digital Economy (Adigital); and José Antonio Vega, chief editor of CincoDías.
