All football matches to be broadcast on Digital+ starting with the next league

04-06-2009

Subscribers to Canal+ and the satellite platform Digital + (owned by PRISA) will be able to enjoy all the premier league games as well as the Copa del Rey (the King's Cup) for the next three seasons after an agreement was signed between Sogecable and Mediapro, effectively ending the so-called "football war".

The agreement, covering the seasons 2009/20010 to 2011/2012, includes the exclusive broadcast rights to show the Sunday night match on Canal+. The rest of the games, except those which must be broadcast freely by law, will be shown on a non-exclusive basis. There will be two games on pay TV while the rest will most likely be shown on a pay-per-view basis. All these games will be available to subscribers to the Digital+ platform.

The football broadcast rights enjoyed by Digital+ are thus guaranteed, regardless of the results of the legal battle between both companies in the courts. Both sides have expressed their desire to resolve this dispute amiably.
