An El País report on organ donation wins the Luis Portero Award

The health authorities of the regional government of Andalucia have awarded their highest tribute to the report Supervivientes, plusmarquistas del trasplante (Survivors), published on August 3, 2008 in the El País Sunday supplement, El País Semanal. The award was announced at the 12th annual Luis Portero Awards for Journalism.

The jury praised the article's "high journalistic quality and originality". The author, Luz Sánchez-Mellado y Quino Petit, received 3,000 euros in prize money.

In the print media category, the first prize - worth 1,000 euros - went to a series of articles by Rocío Lopera and published in the newspaper, El Día de Córdoba, to mark Organ Donors' Week, 2008. In the radio category,  second prize went to Sandra Camps for her report Donantes Vivos (Live Donors), broadcast by Radio Nacional de España; Televisión Municipal de Córdoba was also honored, in the television category, for its report Vida por dos (Life for Two), by María del Mar Rodríguez Vacas.

The Luis Portero Awards for Journalism are given to those professionals who have done most to contribute to the promotion of the benefits of organ and tissue donation in Andalucía.
