17-05-2011

Arianna Huffington, President and Editor-in-Chief of The AOL Huffington Post Media Group, will has joined the Board of Directors of the newspaper El País, whose president is Juan Luis Cebrián. The entry of the new board member reflects the newspaper's global vision and will assist the paper in its goal of meeting the challenges of new technologies in information and news.

The Greek-born US journalist Arianna Huffington (Athens, 1950) revolutionized the world of digital news and information by co-founding The Huffington Post, a leading source of news and opinion, in 2005. Following the recent acquisition of The Huffington Post by AOL, she now oversees a wide range of destination sites, including The Huffington Post, TechCrunch, AOL Music, Engadget, AOL Moviefone, StyleList and hyperlocal news platform Patch. She is one of the most influential media figures today, and was named this year to Time magazine's list of the "100 Most Influential People in the World" - for the second time.

"The appointment of Arianna to our Board will give a considerable boost to the digital transformation of El País and increase the international influence of our newspaper," said Juan Luis Cebrián, chairman of the Executive Committee of the Board and CEO of PRISA. "This is great news for our readers and it is a pleasure to welcome on board our new member at such a crucial juncture in the history of our newspaper," added Cebrián.
