Cadena SER brings back radio drama for Christmas

11-12-2013

With cameos by Iñaki Gabilondo, Pepa Bueno, Carles Francino, Gemma Nierga, Javier del Pino, Macarena Berlin and Pedro Blanco.

Cadena SER is set to recover, this Christmas, the magic of radio drama with an adaptation of Charles Dickens’ festive classic A Christmas Carol. Juan Cavestany, one of Spain’s most prestigious writers, directors and playwrights was given the task of adapting the story while remaining, insofar as possible, "faithful to the original text ". Cavestany’s attention to detail and skill at adapting this masterpiece for Cadena SER is sure to be enhanced further still by the talented voices of the actors, who together make up one of the best casts in recent theater.

José María Pou plays the coveted part of Ebenezer Scrooge; Juan Echanove takes on Dickens himself, as he narrates the moral transformation of old Scrooge, José Luis García Pérez is literally out of this world as Marley; Carlos Hipólito and Pedro Casablanc play the ghosts; and all are joined by a stellar cast of brilliant actors, such as Luis Bermejo, Nuria Gallardo, Malena Alterio, Enric Benavente and Carolina Lapausa, who, with their voice talent, will transport the listener to another age, an age steeped in the misery of the proletariat during the Industrial Revolution.

A Christmas Carol, directed by Mariano Revilla and produced by Alfonso Sanz, also sees great cameos from a range of radio professionals including Iñaki Gabilondo , Pepa Bueno, Carles Francino , Gemma Nierga , Javier del Pino , Macarena Berlin and Pedro Blanco.

The play will be broadcast on December 25 from 12 noon to 2 pm on Cadena SER, and will be rebroadcast on the evening of Epiphany, January 6, at 5 pm. There will also be another chance to hear the play on Cadenaser.com and via mobile applications on December 28 and January 1 from 12 noon to 2 pm. The audio can be downloaded after broadcast at Cadenaser.com.
