Cadena SER is absolute leader in Spanish radio

Cadena SER has started the year once again as absolute leader in the Spanish radio sector. It is also the radio network to have seen greatest growth, with 448,000 new listeners in the first quarter of the year. With 4,695,000 listeners, Cadena SER enjoys a lead of more than 2,000,000 listeners over Onda Cero and nearly 3,000,000 over COPE.

ABSOLUTE LEADER IN NEWS

Cadena SER was the radio network of choice for news in a quarter that saw dramatic events such as the Tsunami and the nuclear disaster in Japan, the conflicts in Libya and Egypt and the uprisings throughout North Africa and Middle East .

Hoy por Hoy reported a spectacular rise of almost half a million listeners. Directed by Carles Francino, it is by far the most listened to radio program in Spain, with 2,922,000 listeners.

In the evenings, La Ventana also reported new listeners. 122,000 new listeners  tuned in to Gemma Nierga's program, giving it a an audience of 802,000.

Hora 25, anchored by Angels Barceló, continues to maintain a clear lead. It also saw its figures climb and now reaches 1,325,000 listeners, a figure greater than the combined total of COPE and Onda Cero in the same time slot.

Cadena SER also tops the audience share ratings for the midday news. Hora 14 had one of its best figures ever: 609,000 people listen to the news show headed by Jose Antonio Marcos, Monday through Friday.

At weekends, Cadena SER also maintains its lead. A vivir que son dos dias is once again the top-ranking program, with 1,630,000 listeners on Saturdays and 1,449,000 on Sundays tuning in to Montserrat Domínguez. The weekend news program presented by Jesus Cintora is also popular on Saturdays and Sundays.

In the late-night slot, Cadena SER is also in the lead: Hablar por Hablar, with Macarena Berlin, reaches 441,000 listeners, while Si amanece nos vamos, with Roberto Sánchez, has 176,000 listeners.

Other ratings leaders include: Milenio 3, with Iker Jimenez (541,000 listeners) and Los Toros, with Manolo Moles (342,000 listeners).

SER SPORTS, UNBEATABLE

Cadena SER's sports programs remain unchallenged, with Carrusel Deportivo at the top of the league. Javier Hoyos, Juan Ortega and their team are audience-share leaders on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Saturday's audience was up and now reaches 1,709,000 listeners, while Sunday's figure is 1,512,000.

El Larguero gained 111,000 new listeners and widened the gap over its competitors. Jose Ramón de la Morena's program now has 1,146,000 listeners every night. Its audience figure is greater than the sum total of all its private competitors: Onda Cero, COPE and Punto Radio.

Hora 25 de los deportes and SER Deportes are also leaders in their respective slots. 

LEADERS IN MUSIC

Los 40 Principales saw its audience continue to grow, with 3,996,000 listeners tuning in every day. Anda Ya, the station's early morning program now has over 2,000,000 listeners. It is the second most listened to program in Spain after Hoy por Hoy

Cadena Dial,  with 2,106,000 listeners, is the second-ranking music station in Spain, and its Spanish music programs rank first. Early morning program Atrevete, with Oscar Martinez and his team, has 931,000 listeners.

Also showing spectacular gains is Máxima FM, which kicked off the year with 708,000 listeners. M-80 Radio had 490,000  listeners and Radiolé 533,000, an increase of 109,000 listeners this quarter.
