13-03-2014

The initiative sees the launch of www.golescontraelhambre.com, and the network announces that Manu Carreño and Ponseti will travel to Bamako for a live broadcast of sports program Carrusel Deportivo

Over the past few weeks Cadena SER has been informing listeners of the situation in Mali, embroiled in armed conflict and with a severe food crisis threatening the population. Carles Francino traveled to the country to launch this campaign, which was today formally presented by the network, alongside the channel’s biggest stars and the director of Action Against Hunger. Together they gave details on the team that will play the upcoming football match, the football jersey, the rivals, and the fund-raising website www.golescontraelhambre.co,

Alejandro Nieto, general manager of PRISA Radio Spain, noted that "Cadena SER is looking forward to this match and  hopes to score as many goals as possible against hunger. This is a great year for football, but for us, this game is what really counts." He was convinced that listeners would show their support: "Two years ago we launched this campaign and the response from our audience was spectacular. We now invite them once more to play alongside us because we are convinced that hunger does have a solution."

Olivier Longué , director of Action Against Hunger Spain, was eager to collaborate on the initiative once again and to use the values of football "to play against our greatest rival, hunger. There are solutions: hunger can be treated as an illness, but we need help. With just 40 euros we can save a life. The most important thing is prevention because hunger leaves psychological and physical scars that will mark these children for life, and without children there is no future."

Carles Francino, director of Cadena SER’s La Ventana, spoke of his experience in the country a couple of weeks ago, and stressed the important social role of media not only in informing and raising awareness among society but also in the the crucial quest for resources now that aid budgets been drastically slashed: "Hunger is not inevitable: there are ways to end it and we want to make our contribution. Our campaign may have modest goals , but we have to bear in mind that every euro of aid has a spectacular return. Helping to eradicate this problem makes you truly value this profession and  enhances it. We are proud to help people working in the field, the true civilian heroes."

Also heading to Mali in April  is the Carrusel Deportivo team. The program’s director Manu Carreño, said he was thrilled that that this trip would be the culmination of a five-week campaign : "My dream has always been to make Carrusel on African soil, the first time in the 60 year history of the program. It’s a dream that is now coming true and it’s also for a great cause." José Antonio Ponseti, co-presenter of the same ,program and with experience in Africa, stressed that we can change things: “We have to score as many goals as possible because if we drop our guard ... hunger will continue to plague these children."

Golescontraelhambre.com

Jesus Gallego, sports director at Cadena SER, explained that: "undoubtedly the most beautiful football jersey I have ever worn was the Goals Against Hunger shirt". He explained how to participate in the campaign and collaborate via the website golescontraelhambre.com. "We cannot win the game alone. No star player wins a game without fans, and we need the support of all our listeners and supporters. We want to create the greatest team ever, a team in which we all have a place, the team that will beat acute malnutrition. To join the team, we have created a user-friendly website with an attractive and simple interface. The site is programmed in HTML5 and is fully responsive, and automatically adapts to support PC, tablets and smartphones. By sending an SMS with the word GOL to 28010, for only € 1.20, your contribution  automatically becomes a goal and then goes viral on social networking sites. These contributions and goals are tracked and there will be prizes for those scoring the most goals”.
