08-10-2010

Caracol Radio, Colombia's leading broadcaster, has been honored with two awards at the 35th annual Simon Bolivar Journalism Awards, given by the Fundación Nuevo Periodismo Iberoamericano (FNPI - Ibero-American Foundation for New Journalism).

Gustavo Gomez, director of 10AM Hoy por Hoy, was named Journalist of the Year for his "outstanding professional dedication and for having created an enormous impact on public opinion through his journalism work."

Alejandro Villegas and Rafael Pinilla, heads of content management, won Best Radio Report for a special report marking the 20th anniversary of the M-19 decommissioning and handing over their weapons.

The prizewinners were presented with their awards by former Colombian presidents Belisario Betancourt and César Gaviria, and Juan Cruz, deputy editor at El País.

The recognition by Colombia's most prestigious journalism award confirms once again the lead enjoyed by Caracol Radio.
